What 4 conductor color code does Magneto Design Lab use?

We use the "Gibson" color code for our 4 conductor hookup wire options. For example: Black = start wire of the screw coil, Green = finish wire of the screw coil, Red = start wire of the slug coil, and White = finish wire of the slug coil.

For traditional series hookup, solder the red or hot wire to the appropriate pot/switch tab, the black or ground wire to the back of a pot or other ground connection, and solder the green and white together. Click here for Series/Parallel and Coil Splits.

Do Magneto Design Lab pickups/products come with a warranty?

Our products are covered by a limited lifetime warranty that is extended to the original customer and covers failure due to a manufacturing defect. The warranty is non-transferable and does not cover damage through misuse, improper handling, or modification by anyone other than Magneto Design Lab.

How do I select the correct direction & polarity for my Single Coil pickup?

To check your pickup direction/polarity is not difficult. The start/black wire on the pickup is normally the tell for direction. If it's on the left it's clockwise, and anti-clockwise if on the right (see here).

The magnet polarity is easy to check with a smart phone app (IOS or Android). Download your app and measure the polarity at the top of the pickup (see here). You can also use an old school compass and switch the polarity, opposite to what the compass is reading.

After you determine the direction/polarity of your existing pickup(s), select a combination that is either the same as your existing pickup (non-noise-cancelling), or one that is completely opposite as your existing pickup (noise-cancelling).
